Please note:

  • Masterclass times displayed are the start times
  • Important that you arrive one-hour prior for your Masterclass, so you make it through registration and are seated ready in time for your start time.
  • The Canadian War Museum will be keeping their cafeteria and bar open for you prior to Whisky Ottawa opening,

VIP Masterclass: if you’re purchasing a VIP ticket you’re Masterclass is included.

  • You do not have to register for the VIP Masterclass.
  • Please arrive no later then 16:15. You will have to register and get seated for the start time of 17:00.
  • Your VIP ticket gets you on the sampling floor at 18:00.

Many of the Masterclasses are dedicated to one brand or expression, however we have a few that are dedicated to compare, if you dare!

Enjoy international flavour comparisons or eye-opening introductions to a range of great whiskeys. Join brand ambassadors, master distillers, leading experts and take part in the Great Whisky Debate as part of your VIP ticket or on its own.

The VIP's,  Masterclass for this year is another exclusive VIP Masterclass included in your VIP ticket, special for this year, 2017 "How to judge whiskey & be part of the inaugural Whisky Ottawa best of show Awards". Davin de Kergommeaux will present your masterclass; you will also receive one of Davin’s books, a signed copy of the Canadian Whisky, Second Edition, all in celebration of Canada 150! After your VIP Masterclass it will be time for you enter on to the Grand Tasting Hall for your 6pm opening for VIP's only.

BURNS STEWART - Bunnahabhain Masterclass


MIKE BRISBROIS from BURNS STEWART will be presenting, Bunnahabhain 12, Bunnahabhain 18, Bunnahabhain 25 and Bunnahabhain Ceobanach


Mike has been a malt specialist for just over five years, but his passion for whisky began well before that. Mike is an Ottawa native who’s whisky journey began attending whisky festivals, joining the Caskers of Ottawa Whisky Club, and judging the Canadian Whisky Awards. He now works as the North American Brand Ambassador for Distell Distilleries including Bunnahabhain Islay Distillery, Deanston Distillery, and Tobermory Distillery and has conducted tastings throughout Canada and the US. His first pilgrimage to Scotland was in the Spring of 2016 where his fondest memory was enjoying a dram of Bunnahabhain 18 while overlooking the sound of Islay at Bunnahabhain distillery.

MATT JONES from Beam Suntory will be presenting SMALL BATCH BOURBON, Jim Beam Black, Double Oak, Jim Beam Rye and BONDED

Bio: Matt has been Beam Suntory Canada’s Bourbon Whiskey Ambassador since 2010, representing the Jim Beam Family, Maker’s Mark,  Knob Creek, Basil Hayden’s, Baker’s and Booker’s Small Batch Collection. Matt has been working within the beverage alcohol industry for 18 years as bartender, mixologist and consultant, so it’s no surprise that Matt’s passions include the culinary arts, cocktails, and people. Known to many as the “Whisk(e)y Chef,” Matt travels across Canada preaching the gospel of whisk(e)y and spreading his love of bourbon often with a cocktail and culinary approach. This, coupled with his love of travel and wealth of knowledge in the alcohol beverage industry, has made Matt the perfect bourbon specialist to travel coast to coast educating consumers and trade professionals on whisk(e)y.  

In 2016 Matt was officially highly commended by Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky as World Whisky Ambassador of the Year 2016 and won the Global American Whiskey Ambassador of the Year 2017. Matt was most recently featured on the cover of Whisky Magazine issue 138, a global publication.

Bio: Jason Moore, Single Malt Specialist – Whyte & Mackay Americas

Jason Moore is the Single Malt Specialist for Whyte & Mackay Americas. A Scotch whisky expert and a passionate presenter, Jason possesses over 8 years of experience in the spirits industry. Jason developed his love for Scotch whisky while managing a pub in the sleepy college town of Denton, TX. After graduation, Jason immediately began his career as a spirits sales representative in Dallas, TX representing the extensive whisk(e)y portfolios of Diageo and The Glenmorangie Company. After recognizing his love of sharing his passion for Scotch whisky with the masses, he began representing The Macallan Single Malt Scotch as a National Brand Ambassador based in Chicago, IL. In 2015, Jason jumped at the opportunity to represent the award winning single malt whiskies from The Dalmore and Jura as a Single Malt Specialist for Whyte & Mackay Americas. Jason has had the fortune of training on-site at distilleries across Scotland and the U.S., as well as the sherry bodegas and cooperages of Jerez, Spain. Jason currently resides in New York, NY with his dog, Frank, and his ever growing whisky collection.

Presenter John Breckon from BROWN-FORMAN will be presenting, Woodford Reserve, Double Oaked, Master's Collection Brandy Cask Finish, Woodford Reserve Rye

Bio: John Brecko, Vice President - Business Development & Brown-Forman Brand Ambassador, jbreckon@bfcanada.ca John has an extensive and interesting background in many areas of the beverage alcohol industry…he has held management positions across all aspects of the Marketing Mix; Human Resources, Promotion, Sales and Marketing. In 1996, John started on the agency side of the business and since then, he has been promoted through the ranks in Canada and the US exclusively for Brown-Forman Beverages.  Growing in his sales and marketing capacities has helped reveal his true passion; education & brand ambassadorship. 

Always eager to share his spirits knowledge and passion with others, John collaborates with new hires for brand training, he speaks at whiskey festivals and with hospitality and retail trade staff as much as possible. For the past 10 years, John has devoted his time to studying BF brands and competitive sets and empowering the next generation of brand builders. In 2013 he achieved the accreditation of a Certified Specialist of Spirits from the Society of Wine Educators and his WSET Level 2.  His passion for spirit education and brand building have led him to the role of the Vice President Business Development for the Hive Beverage Group where he manages the spirits Ambassador program, On-Premise National Account Sales and new business.
